About the Festival and Area

Feile Freaney is organised by Graiguenamanagh branch of Comhaltas and has proved to be a success due to the dedication of the local committee. The first festival was held in 2007 when the branch members decided to run music workshops  mainly for the purpose of encouraging and improving the musical skills of young musicians in the surrounding areas. Graiguenamanagh has a wealth of musical talent and traditional music has always been celebrated and enjoyed by the local people and so the festival continues to grow from year to year. Duiske Abbey has  featured the music of musicians such as Teada, Liadan, Mary bergin, The McCarthys  and Michael Rooney .

Over the last ten years the tranquillity of Graiguenamanagh has come to represent its greatest asset. Pleasure boats have begun to regard Graigue as the natural safe harbour on the Barrow, and each year the number moored there has increased. The Barrow Towpath and the adjacent Blackstairs mountains have seen a steady growth in the number of hillwalkers in the area.

Fisherman can come and enjoy good game and coarse fishing on one of the finest stretches of water in the country. The pubs of Graiguenamanagh are regarded as some of the finest in the south-east and are the perfect spot for a good pint, good music, and pleasant chat. And the heritage of 800 years is everywhere you look.
